How do I install the Project KickStart 5 Trial?

  1. Look for the file you downloaded, PKS5Setup.exe
  2. Double click on the file to install

Do I have to uninstall PKS4 before installing Project KickStart 5?

Yes. Uninstall Project KickStart 4 before installing Project KickStart Pro 5. Don't worry, you won't lose any of your projects.

  1. If you modified the People Library in Project KickStart 4, please back up the Libraries file c:\program files\project kickstart 4\pks4lib.xdat
  2. Go to Windows Add/Remove programs. Select Project KickStart 4 and uninstall it.
  3. Download the Project KickStart version 5 free trial from this link. http://www.projectkickstart.com/downloads/new_version.cfm
  4. Install the PKS version 5 free trial.

When does my Free Trial begin?

  • The Free Trial begins only when you open the application for the first time. So, the date you downloaded is not the start date for your trial. Of course, we want you to try it asap to start reaping the many benefits, so go for it.

I can't seem to find the Free Trial that I downloaded?

  1. Click on the Windows "Start" button,
  2. Select "Find"

  3. Set "Files or Folders"

  4. Type PKS5Setup.exe in the Search box.

Or, you can just try to download it again, and watch where your browser wants to save it. That is where it probably is.

The Free Trial file does not install Project KickStart. Why not?

  • If your Internet connection is interrupted during the download, the file you download may not be the right size. When you try to install it, you may get an error message from Windows. You can check whether your download completed correctly as follows:
    - Using Windows Explorer or "My Computer", find the file that you just downloaded:
    PKS5Setup.exe
    - Right-click on the PKS5Setup.exe file and select "Properties"
    - Check the file size: it should be 20112056 bytes.

Does the Free Trial have limitations?

  • You can only print one page of the Gantt chart during the trial.

  • There are water marks in the Task List Report during the trial.

  • The free trial lasts 20 days.

Will the projects I work on during the Free Trial be saved?

  • Yes. You can create and save projects during the trial. Your work will be saved on your computer when you later purchase Project KickStart.

Installation

How can I install Project KickStart on a network?

  • Once you have licenses for each person who will be using Project KickStart on the network, you can install it on the network.
  • You must install Project KickStart on each work station. When you are asked where to install the files, specify a folder on the network drive. (Some files will also be copied to the \Windows\System folder on the work station. Also, there will be registry entries on the work station, noting the location of important files and program parameters.)
  • Then, when each user runs Project KickStart from their work station, they will be able to open up prx files and will have access to shared Libraries.
  • If you are installing a Project KickStart Trial on a networked computer, you may need to have administrative privileges to do so.

How can you import contacts from Outlook Exchange Server?

First, you need to export .pst file data from Outlook Exchange Server using the following steps to export an individual folder:

  1. On Outlook Exchange's File menu, click Import and Export. (If the menu item is not available, hover the pointer over the chevrons at the bottom of the menu and then click Import and Export.)
  2. Click Export To File and click Next.
  3. Click Personal Folder File (.pst) and click Next.
  4. Click the folder that you want to export the .pst file to, and click Next.
  5. Click the Browse button and then select the location to save the .pst file.
  6. In the File Name box, type a descriptive file name for the .pst file, and then click OK.
  7. Click Finish
Second, you need to copy contact names kept in a Personal Folders file (.pst) into your Outlook Contacts folder. Open the .pst in Outlook and then drag names from its folder into the Contacts folder.
  1. On the File menu, point to Open, and then click Outlook Data File.
  2. Locate your .pst file, click it, and then click OK to open it.
  3. On the Go menu, click Folder List.
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the Folder List to locate your .pst folder, for example, MyChoralContacts. You may need to click the plus sign next to the folder to reveal its contents.
  5. Click the contact you want to include in an address book, and then while holding down the CTRL key, click and drag the contact into the Contacts folder. By following this process, you copy the contact instead of moving it.
  6. When you are finished copying contacts, right-click the MyChoralContacts folder, and then click Close "MyChoralContacts".
  7. Click the Contacts folder, and then locate the contacts you copied to it.

Note: we have encountered implementations of Microsoft Exchange Server where Project KickStart cannot locate the proper folder and files in order to import the contacts and export the tasks. We will work with you to understand your implementation in an attempt to get Project KickStart to work, but we do have limited resources to do so.

If, for some reason, you need to determine the version of Microsoft Exchange Server you are using, here is a useful link.
